  • FESTIVAAAAAAL!

    May 18, 2005

It's that time of year again. No, not time to get in your last minute "planting", you're a little late for that at least down here in NC. It's summer festival season which makes me happier than a pig on a spit or something like that. I love festival season, I really do. It gives the rest of the year purpose. Like "only 6 more months to festival season." Kinda like football in the fall I guess, or Boxing Day in the winter. I don't camp any more though. I guess I just don't have the fortitude that I once did. Ten years ago it was fun to stay at a festival for 4 or 5 days, not get any sleep, party like a rockstar and still play sets with a reasonable amount of energy. As I've entered the twilight of life this has changed. Now I'm still for hanging out at the site, but then get me to the Hilton. Get me to a bed, and a shower. Get me to the jacuzzi. Have I lost my edge? I don't think so. I think it's more like a need for things more than craptastic. These days I need food and rest if I want to play well. Of course I talk a good game but when it comes down to it you'll probably see me still there picking at 5 am. I just like to embrace the illusion that I'm trying to take better care of myself. Perception defines reality, right? I'll be checking in and posting from the road so until then, keep trying to do the right thing, even if you're not. Keep it low....CQ

    Papers please...

    May 10, 2005

It's finally happening. For years I've been saying that when we all have to get our national ID cards I'm out of here. Enter the REAL ID act; HR 418. It's already passed in the House of Representatives and it should go through the Senate in the next week or so. Haven't you always wanted a huge federal database with all your personal information on it that can be accessed by anyone, including other countries, at any given time? Well wait no more. Of course, this won't affect you if you never drive, fly, get a job, apply for credit, go to school, or receive social security. If you do or want to do any of these things however, you're screwed. Remember how evil it always looked in those old war movies when someone is fleeing their country on the train? The police get on and start walking down the aisles "papers please" they'd say. And you'd think, "wow, that sucks, I'm glad I live in America." Well now it's going to happen to you...and me. Anyone who thinks I'm being paranoid can go to the library of Congress website and read it. The bill is there for all to see. I've always wanted to spend some more time in Mexico anyway....

    GAS...I've got it.

    May 1, 2005

First of all, I know it's been a long time since I've posted here. I won't try and justify it.... I'm lazy. That's right, I said it....lazy. Everybody knows I'm lazy so hey, that's how it goes. I will try to be more current in the future though. Now that that's out of the way back to the GAS. No it's not some intestinal disorder and it has nothing to do with the jalapeno pizza I had at the Station Inn in Nashville last week. GAS stands for gear aquisition syndrome. It's a horrible affliction that many musicians suffer from on a daily basis. You see, it's an addiction. You can never get enough. When it is enough it's never the right thing, or your tastes have changed, or something new and better is out there. It never ends I tell ya....never. I got a new amp this week. This is beyond exciting because I've been using my old amp on the road for the last fifteen years. It was tired, it was cranky, and it was electrocuting me every night. My new amp is youthfull, lively, perky, fresh and doesn't dislike me enough yet to shock me every time I plug it in. Of course, the ink on the marriage of myself and the new amp isn't even dry yet and I'm off looking at other stuff. A new amp deserves a new cabinet, right? And the new amp was to compliment the new bass. Wash, rinse, repeat ad infinitum.... These things are important mind you. You wouldn't want to come see LOWdOGS and have shitty sound, right? Anywho, I'm doing my best to behave even though there is no cure for GAS, you can only treat the symptoms, kinda like herpes.
